Common Causes of Hair Structure Damage

Poor Nutrition: Hair growth can be stunted by a diet that is low in fruits, vegetables and other nutrient rich foods. Nutrition has a considerable impact on the growth of a-keratin shafts that comprise hair. The B vitamins are essential in maintaining healthy hair. Without these vitamins, hair may become fine and thin.

Sun Damage: While it may not be as obvious, hair can be damaged by the sun just as easily as skin can. Heat and humidity combine to dry out the hair resulting in hair structure damage. This damage usually makes the hair frizzy and subject to breakage.

Hair Straightening or Curling: The use of hot hair irons can cause considerable hair structure damage. Any application of extreme heat to the hair will dry the strands making them more brittle and susceptible to damage. Anything that causes physical stress or friction to the hair will cause hair loss. Hair Products: Many shampoos contain detergents and other chemicals that dry hair out. The scalp may also become dry with repeated use of gels and sprays that contain alcohol.

Too Much or Too Little Washing: Surprisingly, hair structure damage can be caused by washing the hair too often. Hair that is shampooed on a daily basis can become dried out. This is because harsh detergents can strip away the hairs natural oils. On the other hand, hair structure damage may be caused by not washing the hair often enough. This is because oils build up on the hair creating the perfect environment for dandruff to thrive.
