Hair Loss Surgery

While hair loss is pretty common as you age, there are times that it is able to go back on its own. However, if this does not happen and hair growth products do no work, you should consider hair loss surgery.

Hair loss surgery is done by moving hair from the back of the head to the area that does not have hair. This is best area to get it from since the hair found here will continue to grow throughout the life of a patient.

To be a candidate for hair loss surgery, you must have sufficient hair at the back of the scalp. If you don't there are other techniques now available which will prevent you from wearing a wig. The surgeon may try to extract hair from your body and put it on your head.

The problem with body hair is that it is not natural looking compared to scalp hair and it takes a longer time for the body hair to grow. Since it is still new, there is not that much data you to see how effective body hair will do for someone that requires hair loss surgery. One thing you will notice about hair loss surgery is the plug and corn row technique of replanting hair is gone and there are now single, micro and mini grafting techniques.

In single hair grafts, you basically create a new hair by putting a piece of hair at a time. For micro, you put 2 to 3 pieces of hair behind the hair line. As for mini, you put 4 or more hairs so the remaining natural hair on the scalp is able to blend in with the larger grafts.

Hair loss surgeons have to do this right to avoid major problems like bleeding, scarring or infections. Although rare, most patients who choose to under hair loss surgery will experience mild pain or discomfort right after that can even move down the eyes and notice scabs over the grafts which will be gone after a week.

So if you are interested in hair loss surgery, go to a clinic and see if the surgeon is able to help you with your hair problem. These people should be able to explain what happens during the procedure to give you an idea how it will happen.
