Hair Loss Questions

Many people have hair loss questions. This is because hair loss can happen for a variety of reasons. If hair loss is being caused by stress, you may be able to stop or reverse the process. If you hair loss is coming from old age, it is more difficult to fight.

Once hair loss has begun you may ask your self if taking medication is the right decision for you. If you are interested in taking medication to halt hair loss, talk to your doctor. You have several options and your doctor can help answer your hair loss questions and choose the medication that is right for you.

What about taking supplements instead of medication, will that help? You can certainly try if you are a woman. Vitamins won't help men prevent male pattern baldness. Research has shown that when women add an iron supplement with vitamin C, they can experience the re-growth of hair. The iron is taken with vitamin C because it helps the body absorb the iron.

Hair loss is puzzling and many people have hair loss questions they want answered. A leading man's magazine reports hair loss questions are second only to questions about sex. One common hair loss question is if balding could be due to blocked hair follicles. The answer is no. While a hair may get blocked once in a while it is not the cause of or cure for baldness.

Another of the common hair loss questions is about DNA. People always want to know whether baldness is genetic. In fact it is due to genetic factors the majority of the time. Many people believe that baldness is inherited from your mothers' father. But there is no proof that that is true. Hair loss can be inherited from both sides of your family.

Of course the king of all hair loss questions, what actually causes baldness? Scientists have finally figured it out. Over ninety percent of baldness is caused by DHT (dihydrotestosterone). That includes female baldness and male pattern baldness. DHT comes from testosterone and is highly influenced by heredity. You don't want to get rid of your DHT thought because it helps with the development of your secondary sex characteristics.

DHT causes baldness because it has a detrimental effect on hair follicles. The hairs at the top of the head and closest to the fore head are the most vulnerable. DHT causes the hair follicle to break down. Over time the growth phase of the hair becomes shorter and shorter until nothing grows at all. Some popular hair loss prevention medications are also known as DHT blockers.

Of all the hair loss questions there is one important question that remains unanswered. We know what causes baldness. We know how to slow down baldness once it starts. We know there are hair replacement options. Yet we still don not know how to prevent baldness from happening.
